Speaking with Multi-Housing News, a few experts in the multifamily management business stated internet listings services can still be useful for apartment firms in terms of marketing, despite social media and other marketing means taking precedence in recent years.
Gary Redmond, assistant vice president of e-commerce for Archstone, told the source ILSs are used by roughly 80 percent of prospective renters in today's market, and continue to be effective "content aggregators."
"[Prospects are] going to start their research with ILSs, informing their decisions by going to owners’ sites and rating sites to see what others are saying about the community," he told MHN.
Additionally, Steve Lefkovits, executive producer of the Apartment Internet Marketing conference, told the source ILSs have evolved in the last five years. While they were strictly only used for listings a few years ago, ILSs today are involved with multi-faceted marketing efforts.
Utilizing ILSs in a marketing campaign, along with social media interaction, appears to be the ideal way to develop leads in today's rental market.
